He graduated from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Department of Surveying Restoration and Restitution. Afterwards, he completed his undergraduate education at the Faculty of Architecture, Department of Interior Architecture at the same institution. Discovering his interest in marine vehicles, where he gained experience in design and application, he obtained his master's degree from Marmara University Fine Arts Institute with a thesis titled "A Volume and Furniture Focused Study on Small-Scale Floating Spaces with Residential Functions". During his education, he worked on interior design, application, and furniture design in several companies.
He has been involved in various events and workshops such as Istanbul Design Week, International Paper Furniture workshop, and as a project consultant in the "From Part to Whole Space" workshop. He served as a jury member in the 9th Istanbul Furniture Fair (ISMOB) design competition and the 10th and 12th National Home Furniture Design Competition. He also acted as a project consultant in the Project for Increasing Young Employment in the Furniture Sector at 19 Mayıs University (OMU) and spoke at the Forum Interior Interior Architecture Conference and Fair, Design Talks.
He has participated in several fairs including Art Basel Event Miami, Milan Depodova Showroom, İmob (2008-2009, 2010, 2011), and I-Deco (2009, 2011). He has exhibited his designs and artwork in group exhibitions at Armaggan Art and Design Gallery and Art Suites Gallery.
His product and space designs have been featured in both domestic and international press. His furniture designs "ABC," "ABC XS," and "Clear" were showcased at the "2020 Virtual Design Festival" organized by the popular online design portal Dezeen. With his success and experience, he founded Zift Design (design & application) company in 2010.
Since 2014, he has been teaching courses such as Design Studio, Furniture Design, Showcase Design, Model Design, Free Hand Perspective, Surveying Restoration, and Building Protection Techniques at Gedik University, Topkapı University, and Beykoz University. Currently, he is working as a lecturer at Beykoz University.
Continuing to create and share, Lütfi Büyüktopbaş prioritizes continuity, simplicity, and functionality in his designs. In other words, he enjoys the process of the journey rather than the destination.
